Anti Gliadin Antibodies Iga

The Anti-Gliadin Antibodies IgA (AGA-IgA) Test is a blood test used to detect IgA antibodies against gliadin, a protein component of gluten found in wheat and related grains.

This test may help healthcare professionals investigate gluten-related immune responses and support the evaluation of suspected Celiac Disease. However, conventional Anti-Gliadin IgA testing is less accurate than newer celiac disease antibody tests and is generally not recommended as a primary screening test.

What Does This Test Check?

• Detects IgA antibodies against gliadin.

• Helps evaluate immune responses associated with gluten exposure.

• May support the investigation of suspected Celiac Disease in selected cases.

• Provides additional information alongside other celiac disease antibody tests.

• Helps healthcare professionals assess possible gluten-related conditions when clinically appropriate.

Sample Requirements

• Sample Type: Serum

• Required Quantity: To be confirmed by the laboratory.

• Department: Immunology / Serology (subject to laboratory confirmation).

Patient Preparation

• Continue consuming gluten before testing unless your doctor advises otherwise.

• Avoid starting a gluten-free diet before testing, as it may affect antibody levels and test results.

• Fasting is generally not required unless instructed by your doctor or laboratory.

• Inform your healthcare provider about any existing gluten-related conditions or dietary restrictions.

• Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.

Important Information

Anti-Gliadin IgA antibodies may be detected in individuals with Celiac Disease and other conditions, but a positive result alone does not confirm Celiac Disease.

More specific tests, such as tissue transglutaminase IgA (tTG-IgA), along with total IgA measurement, are generally preferred for initial celiac disease evaluation.

In patients with IgA deficiency, IgA-based tests may produce falsely negative results, and appropriate IgG-based tests may be recommended.

Results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional alongside symptoms, medical history, and other relevant investigations.

Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.

Please confirm test availability and sample collection requirements with the laboratory before booking.
