The Anti-HDV (Hepatitis D Virus Antibodies) Test is a blood test used to detect antibodies against the Hepatitis D Virus (HDV), also known as the Delta Hepatitis Virus.
This test helps healthcare professionals investigate possible Hepatitis D infection, particularly in individuals who have Hepatitis B. Hepatitis D is a viral infection that affects the liver and can occur only in people who are also infected with the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV).
Detects antibodies against the Hepatitis D Virus (HDV).
Helps screen for possible current or previous Hepatitis D infection.
Supports the evaluation of Hepatitis D in patients with Hepatitis B.
May assist in investigating unexplained worsening of liver function in individuals with Hepatitis B.
Helps identify patients who may require further testing, such as HDV RNA PCR, to confirm active infection.
Sample Type: Clotted Blood or Serum
Required Quantity: 2–3 ml
Department: Serology / Immunology (subject to laboratory confirmation).
Fasting is generally not required for the Anti-HDV Test.
Inform your healthcare provider if you have been diagnosed with Hepatitis B or have a history of liver disease.
Inform your doctor about any previous Hepatitis D diagnosis or treatment.
Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.
The Anti-HDV Test detects antibodies against the Hepatitis D Virus but does not directly detect the virus itself.
A positive or reactive Anti-HDV result may indicate current or previous exposure to Hepatitis D. Further testing with HDV RNA PCR is generally recommended to determine whether an active infection is present.
A negative or non-reactive result indicates that HDV antibodies were not detected. However, antibodies may not yet be detectable during the early stages of infection, and additional testing may be required if recent exposure is suspected.
Hepatitis D infection occurs only in individuals infected with Hepatitis B. Therefore, Anti-HDV testing is generally considered in patients with current Hepatitis B infection, particularly those who test positive for Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).
Results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional alongside Hepatitis B status, liver function tests, medical history, and other relevant investigations.
Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
Please confirm test availability and sample collection requirements with the laboratory before booking.
