The Anti-Hepatitis A IgM (Anti-HAV IgM) Test is a blood test used to detect IgM antibodies against the Hepatitis A Virus (HAV).
This test helps healthcare professionals diagnose a recent or acute Hepatitis A infection. Hepatitis A is a viral infection that primarily affects the liver and is commonly transmitted through contaminated food, water, or close contact with an infected person.
Detects IgM antibodies against the Hepatitis A Virus (HAV).
Helps diagnose recent or acute Hepatitis A infection.
Supports the investigation of symptoms such as jaundice, fatigue, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and dark urine.
May assist in evaluating patients with abnormal liver function tests.
Helps healthcare professionals investigate suspected Hepatitis A exposure when clinically appropriate.
Sample Type: Clotted Blood or Serum
Required Quantity: 2–3 ml
Department: Serology / Immunology (subject to laboratory confirmation).
Fasting is generally not required for the Anti-Hepatitis A IgM Test.
Inform your healthcare provider if you have recently experienced symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice.
Inform your doctor about any recent exposure to contaminated food or water or contact with someone diagnosed with Hepatitis A.
Inform your healthcare provider if you have recently received a Hepatitis A vaccination.
Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.
The Anti-Hepatitis A IgM Test detects antibodies associated with recent or acute Hepatitis A infection.
A positive or reactive Anti-HAV IgM result may indicate a recent or current Hepatitis A infection. However, false-positive results can occur, and IgM antibodies may sometimes be detectable after recent vaccination or persist following infection.
A negative or non-reactive result indicates that Hepatitis A IgM antibodies were not detected. However, testing very early in the infection may produce a negative result before sufficient antibodies have developed.
For assessing immunity due to previous Hepatitis A infection or vaccination, the Anti-HAV IgG Test or total anti-HAV antibody test may be used.
Results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional alongside symptoms, exposure history, liver function tests, and other relevant investigations.
Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
