Anti Mullerian Hormone (amh)

The Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) Test is a blood test used to measure the level of Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH), a hormone produced by small developing follicles in the ovaries.

This test helps healthcare professionals assess ovarian reserve, which refers to the estimated number of eggs remaining in the ovaries. It is commonly used in fertility evaluations, reproductive health assessments, and planning certain fertility treatments.

What Does This Test Check?

• Measures the level of Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) in the blood.

• Helps assess ovarian reserve and reproductive health.

• Supports fertility evaluations in women experiencing difficulty conceiving.

• Helps healthcare professionals predict ovarian response to fertility treatments, including IVF.

• May assist in the evaluation of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) alongside other clinical findings.

• Supports the assessment of ovarian function in selected patients.

Sample Requirements

• Sample Type: Clotted Blood

• Required Quantity: To be confirmed by the laboratory.

• Department: Endocrinology / Hormone Testing (subject to laboratory confirmation).

Patient Preparation

• Fasting is generally not required for the AMH Test.

• AMH testing can usually be performed on any day of the menstrual cycle, unless your doctor recommends otherwise.

• Inform your healthcare provider about any hormonal medications, fertility treatments, or contraceptives you are currently using.

• Inform your doctor about any history of ovarian surgery, PCOS, or fertility-related conditions.

• Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.

Important Information

The AMH Test provides information about ovarian reserve but does not directly measure egg quality or determine whether a person can become pregnant naturally.

A higher AMH level may indicate a greater number of developing ovarian follicles and can sometimes be associated with PCOS. However, a high AMH result alone does not confirm PCOS.

A lower AMH level may suggest reduced ovarian reserve, but it does not necessarily mean infertility or that pregnancy is impossible.

AMH levels naturally change with age and should be interpreted using appropriate laboratory reference ranges.

The test may also be used in selected pediatric or reproductive endocrinology investigations, depending on the clinical situation.

Results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional alongside age, medical history, menstrual history, ultrasound findings, and other fertility-related investigations.

Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
