Anti Parietal Cells Antibodies

The Anti-Nuclear Factor (ANF) Test is a blood test used to detect antinuclear antibodies that target components of the nucleus within the body's cells.

This test helps healthcare professionals investigate autoimmune disorders, particularly conditions in which the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues. The Anti-Nuclear Factor (ANF) Test is another name for the Anti-Nuclear Antibodies (ANA) Test and is commonly used in the evaluation of suspected Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Sjögren's Syndrome, Systemic Sclerosis, and other connective tissue diseases.

What Does This Test Check?

• Detects antinuclear antibodies (ANF/ANA) in the blood.

• Helps investigate suspected autoimmune and connective tissue disorders.

• Supports the evaluation of conditions such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

• May assist in investigating symptoms such as unexplained joint pain, fatigue, skin rashes, and muscle discomfort.

• Helps healthcare professionals determine whether additional autoimmune antibody testing is required.

• Provides supporting information alongside other laboratory investigations.

Sample Requirements

• Sample Type: Clotted Blood or Serum

• Required Quantity: 2–3 ml

• Department: Immunology / Serology (subject to laboratory confirmation).

Patient Preparation

• Fasting is generally not required for the ANF Test.

• Inform your healthcare provider about any autoimmune conditions or relevant symptoms.

• Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements you are currently taking, as certain medications may be associated with positive ANF results.

• Inform your healthcare provider if you have a family history of autoimmune disorders.

• Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.

Important Information

The Anti-Nuclear Factor (ANF) Test is commonly used as an initial investigation when an autoimmune or connective tissue disorder is suspected.

A positive ANF result indicates that antinuclear antibodies were detected. However, a positive result alone does not confirm an autoimmune disease, as these antibodies may also be present in healthy individuals and in certain other medical conditions.

A negative ANF result makes some autoimmune diseases, particularly Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), less likely but does not completely rule out all autoimmune disorders.

Depending on the laboratory method, ANF results may include an antibody titre and staining pattern, which can provide additional information for clinical interpretation.

Further investigations, such as Anti-dsDNA, ENA Profile, Complement C3/C4, ESR, and CRP, may be recommended depending on the patient's symptoms and clinical findings.

Results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional alongside symptoms, medical history, physical examination, and other relevant investigations.

Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
