The Transglutaminase Antibodies (IgG & IgA) Test is a blood test that detects antibodies against tissue transglutaminase (tTG), an enzyme involved in normal tissue functions.
This test helps healthcare professionals investigate Celiac Disease, an autoimmune condition in which gluten triggers an immune response that damages the lining of the small intestine.
Testing both IgG and IgA antibodies may provide additional information, particularly when evaluating patients with possible IgA deficiency.
Detects IgA antibodies against tissue transglutaminase.
Detects IgG antibodies against tissue transglutaminase.
Supports the investigation of Celiac Disease.
Helps evaluate suspected gluten-related autoimmune reactions.
May assist in assessing patients with IgA deficiency.
Supports further evaluation alongside other celiac disease investigations.
Sample Type: Clotted Blood or Serum
Required Quantity: 2–3 ml
Department: Immunology / Serology
Continue consuming gluten before testing unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Avoid starting a gluten-free diet before testing, as it may affect the accuracy of results.
Fasting is generally not required unless instructed by your doctor or laboratory.
Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.
Positive transglutaminase antibody results may support the possibility of Celiac Disease but do not independently confirm the diagnosis. Results should be interpreted alongside symptoms, medical history, and other investigations. Total IgA levels may also be checked to assess possible IgA deficiency.
Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
Please confirm test availability and sample collection requirements with the laboratory before booking.
