The Anti-Endomysial Antibodies (EMA) Test is a blood test used to detect antibodies directed against endomysium, a connective tissue component found in muscles.
This test is commonly used to support the investigation of Celiac Disease, an autoimmune condition in which gluten consumption triggers an immune response that damages the lining of the small intestine.
Detects anti-endomysial antibodies in the blood.
Supports the diagnosis of Celiac Disease.
Helps investigate suspected gluten-related autoimmune reactions.
May assist in evaluating patients with unexplained digestive symptoms.
Supports further assessment alongside other celiac disease investigations.
Sample Type: Clotted Blood or Serum
Required Quantity: 2–3 ml
Department: Immunology / Serology
Continue consuming gluten before testing unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Avoid starting a gluten-free diet before testing, as it may affect the accuracy of results.
Fasting is generally not required unless instructed by your doctor or laboratory.
Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.
A positive EMA antibody result strongly supports the possibility of Celiac Disease but should be interpreted alongside symptoms, medical history, and other investigations, such as tissue transglutaminase (tTG-IgA) antibodies and total IgA levels. Further evaluation may be recommended by your doctor.
Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
Please confirm test availability and sample collection requirements with the laboratory before booking.
