The Semen Analysis Test is a laboratory examination used to assess the quality and characteristics of a semen sample. It is commonly recommended as part of a male fertility evaluation.
The test provides information about sperm count, movement, shape, and other semen characteristics that may help healthcare professionals assess reproductive health.
The examination may assess:
Sperm Concentration: Number of sperm present in the semen.
Sperm Motility: Percentage of sperm showing movement.
Sperm Morphology: Shape and structure of sperm.
Semen Volume: Total volume of the collected sample.
Liquefaction: Time taken for semen to become more fluid.
pH Level: Acidity or alkalinity of the sample.
Other Parameters: Additional characteristics according to the laboratory's testing protocol.
Sample Type: Semen Sample
Sample Quantity: Complete ejaculate, as instructed by the laboratory.
Collection Container: Sterile, wide-mouth container approved by the laboratory.
Collection Instructions: Collect the sample through masturbation directly into the designated container. Avoid using ordinary condoms or lubricants unless specifically approved by the laboratory.
Maintain sexual abstinence for 2–7 days, or follow the laboratory's specified duration.
Collect the complete semen sample.
Inform the laboratory if any portion of the sample is lost during collection.
Record the collection time if requested.
Deliver the sample promptly, generally within one hour, following the laboratory's transportation instructions.
Semen parameters can vary between samples; repeat testing may be recommended.
An abnormal result does not automatically mean infertility.
Results should be interpreted by a qualified healthcare professional.
Collection and transportation requirements are important for accurate assessment.
Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
Please confirm test availability and sample collection requirements with the laboratory before booking.
