The Syphilis RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) Test is a blood test used to screen for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum.
This test detects antibodies produced in response to cellular damage associated with infection. It is commonly used for initial screening and monitoring treatment response in patients diagnosed with syphilis.
Screens for possible syphilis infection.
Detects non-treponemal antibodies associated with syphilis.
Helps identify individuals who may require further syphilis testing.
Supports monitoring of treatment response through antibody titre changes.
May be used during pregnancy as part of prenatal screening when clinically indicated.
Sample Type: Clotted Blood or Serum
Required Quantity: 3–5 cc
Department: Serology / Microbiology
Fasting is generally not required unless instructed by your doctor or laboratory.
Inform your healthcare provider about any previous syphilis diagnosis or treatment.
Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.
A reactive RPR result does not independently confirm syphilis, as false-positive results can occur in certain medical conditions. Confirmatory testing, such as TPHA or another treponemal antibody test, is generally required.
RPR titres may also be used to monitor treatment response. Results should be interpreted alongside medical history, symptoms, and other clinical findings.
Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
Please confirm test availability and sample collection requirements with the laboratory before booking.
